SLJ Activity 1

 I found photos for my SLJ activity.

First I did a SLJ activity about finding photos that I'm going to do in the summer. I used 15 photos for the activity. 

Second I had to take photos of animals, places I'll go and things I'll do in the summer. I did the places I'll go, like travelling. 

Last I did photos like anime, friends and family. I found photos of things like gaming, swimming in the pool, and visiting my cousins. 

I enjoyed this task because it was about my summer and telling people what I'll do for my summer.

Lettuce Planting

I planted lettuce.

First I planted my seed in the soil. I used a water bottle for the soil.

Next I watered the soil. Then I fulled the inside of the planter box with water.

Last there was mould growing in the soil. The yellow mould has some spots all over the soil.Since there was mould we had to throw our plants away.

I learnt alot of the mould and planting my seeds. The cause of the mould may have came from the dirty water bottles I used.

Lettuce Information

Lettuce is a common vegetable.

Lettuce is in lots of cooking like bugers, tacos, salad, and other dishes.

Lettuce is a vegetable that is a good plant. It's a cold climate.

Lettuce is in lots of cooking like Western cooking.

Lettuce is a cold climate that is good with fast food or work out food.

Line Art

Line art can make a cool curves by using lines. Line art is a type of drawing people do just with a pencil and ruler.

First I drawed a basic shape using a Y axis and a X axis. To make it easy I drew numbers 1 to 10. I drew the numbers in the intersection. I used basic colours to make it look cool.

Next I drew a star to make it a little harder. The star was hard to draw and make. 

Lastly, I made a star and made a circle in the background of the star.  

I enjoyed this task because it made a cool design. I want to get better at making my star because my ruler moved everytime when I ruled my lines.

Potting Plants

How to grow lettuce. Lettuce uses planter boxes and potting mix. Legionella longbeachae is a bacteria that can spread sickness and maybe will kill anyone can die to this bacteria. 

Materials: 

• potting mix     
• trowel 
• mask 
• gloves
• seeds 
• bottle of water 
•  planter box.

Steps:

1. Use your trowel and put potting mix inside the planter box.

QAR and Synthesis

My group and I were making a synthesis and a QAR.

First we did did synthesis. Synthesis has a prior knowledge, new information, and new understanding. 

Prior knowledge is that they already know about the title. New information is that you don't know what is in the text. New understandings is if you agree or don't agree.

Last we did a QAR. QAR has four boxes right here, think and search, author and you, and on my own. There are ten questions that you have to answer.

Smart Media

I learnt about currency and relevance.

Currency is when it was made and was updated. Relevance is if the text about things tells a lot of information. The texts are moon facts, how to shot put, and tree animals.

How to shot put was June 14 2018. Moon facts was August 6th 2021. Tree animals was created in 1998-3-8 and updated 2020-2-7.

How to shot put kinda teachs me. Moon facts teachs me a lot. Tree animals doesn't teach me anything. 

 

Skip Counting and Repeated Addition

Sam has 7 five dollar notes. How many money does Sam have? The question is telling that we have to solve 7 x 5. 

Step 1 solve repeated addition is 5+5+5+5+5+5+5. 

Step two solve the skip counting is 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35. So the answer is 35.

Mike was at the beach for five days and collected 14 seashells to keep each day. The question is telling we have to solve 14 x 5. 

Step 1 solve the repeated addtion is 14+14+14+14+14. 

Step two solve the skip counting is 14, 28, 42, 56, 70. So the answer is 70.

Different Opinion

I was learning opinions and other people had different opinions.

First we looked at a picture of an animal. When I looked at the animal and thought what it looked like. In my opinion I saw a rabbit but other people could see a duck.

Then I was looking at the legs of an elephant. In my opinion there were 5 legs and it was trying to trick us. There are 5 completed legs and one fake leg.

I enjoyed this task and learning optical illusions. 

How To Write Compound Sentences

There are three steps in a compound sentence using a simple sentence: a fanboy, and another simple sentence.

A compound sentence has a 2 actors, 2 actions, 1 comma, and 1 fanboy. A compound sentence is 2 simple sentences stuck together to write a compound sentence.

Party Popper

My company, Designer Builders, completed a party popper and checked if it worked.

First Designer Builders had to draw a design and chose Harry Potter. Designer Builders draw Harry Potter's name, his glasses, him riding on a broom, and his scarf. Designer Builders finished drawing Harry Potter on the party popper cup for the design.

Next when the design for the party popper was done we did the half tooth pick and the rubber band. The Designer Builders did the rubber band first then the half tooth pick. The Designer Builders tested the rubber band and the half tooth pick in the party popper.

Last the Designer Builders did the weight and the filling for the last bite for the party popper. For the filling we used the bom bom for the filling and the glitter stickers for the filling. After the filling we tested the party popper and saw if it worked.

I enjoyed this task because we tested our party popper. The party popper didn't work because all of the filling didn't come out. We could have finished testing the party popper to check if it worked first.

Basic Facts

  I did another basic facts and did up to 20 and did a speed demon challegne. 

I then put in my results. I did times table, My score was 100/100 and my time was 3 minutes and 49 seconds. 

 My time was 3 minutes and 49 seconds and impoved in my time.

Next time I will do this task I will practise my division and do them.  

Temperature and Length

 I measured temperature and capacity.  

I first did my measurements on capacity using large and small measuring cylinders. Then I fill up the cylinders with water. My measurements were 149 ML (149 millilitres), 63 ML (63 millilitres), 7 ML (7 millilitres), and 16 ML (16 millilitres). 

After that I did my temperature measurements. I used thermometers to check the temperatures. I filled up 2 lunch boxes hot and cold and measured the temperature. My Tempertures were 12°C (12 Celsius), and 36°C ( 36 Celsius)

I need to improve in reading thermometers because I was reading Fahrenheit instead of Celsius.

Party Popper Prototype

 My company Design Builders were making a party popper prototype.

First we thought about the parts. We also thought of the stopper. We chose paper because it better to lauch the fulling.

Second Design Builders assembled the parts of the prototype. When we assembled the party popper it stayed together and thought about some backups if this party popper bracks. 

To finish up we got all of the results for our party popper. We also wrote the current design, updated design options, and the rationale. 

I learned a lot about party poppers, how to make the party popper and the current designs.

Trebuchet

A trebuchet is a medivel weapon used to knock down castles.

This is an explanation about how trebuchets work.

Table Mat

 Today I was learning facts about recycling.

First I had to find 3 keywords in the book and a video. My keywords was recycling, shredded, pieces, paper, rubbish, rubbish trucks.

Then I had to find the define for the keywords. My defines was recycling and paper.

After I had to get photos about our define.

Last I had to write 4 facts about recycling.

This is a good task about reading because learning new recycling things and time line.

Maori

 Today I was doing a Maori test and a game of memory but in Maori.

First I was doing a Maori task about where the things are, Kei hea...?

Then we did a test about Maori words and see if we know them. I got 21/21 right. For example I had to do 21 questions on runga, raro, roto, and waho.

Last I played a game called memory. I had to find the right card but it was flip over and had to get the same one and had to look at the picture and say what it look like and say what you think in Maori. For example there was kapua, He hau kaha, hukarere, ua, tino makariri, tino wera, ra paki, ua whatu-hail, and rangi ataahua.

This was a fun task because it was a fun game of memory.    

Table Tennis

 Today I learned how to play table tennis for HPE and was playing table tennis.

First I had to hold the bat like a gun but my index finger is on the other slide of the bat.

Then I practiced bouncing the ball on the bat was my forehand. It was easier to bounce it on my forehand.

After I had to practice bouncing the ball with my back hand. This skill was the hardest because it always goes on my finger.

Last I had to practice doing a drop serve. I had to bounce the ball on my square and bounce it on your opponent's square.

This was a fun activity because I was doing a competition and playing table tennis.

Maori

I did an activity about Maori names.

First I did a Maori name and had to copy and paste it on my google doc. I did Maori names and had to write the english names by copying and pasting it. For example Paora is Paul.

Next I had to write the Maori names and had to write the colours in Maori as their last name.  For example a Maori name and put the colour but put it has Maori.

Lastly, I had to write my name and put it in Maori. For example I have to write my name but put the Maori the alphabet in.

This task was easy but the names were hard. 

HPE

Group A and I we were practicing frisbee

First me and my partner were throwing the frisbee at each other. My partner played a game of throwing and catching. Our next activity was catching and passing but we had to turn in a direction.

Next my partner had to pass and I had to catch the frisbee but my teacher said that we had to go in a direction.  

Lastly, we played a game called ultimate frisbee.  There were two teams and they had to get it into our goal. The other team won the game by using teamwork. 

This was a fun game because we had to practise our balancing using a frisbee.

Party Poper

Today we were thinking about what we should make the party poper as.

First we talk about the parts of the party poper. The parts is the things that you can see.

Then we talk about the current design. The current design is what the parts do.

After we talked about the updated design options. The updated design options is the new design.

Lasty we talked about the rational. The rational is why we chaged the new options.

This task was a little bit hard because we always put the updated design options in the wrong order.

Maori

 I learnt how to say prepositions.

First, I learnt prepositions. "Kei runga ki te kutikuti". This means - Above the scissors.

After, I learnt maui and matou. Maui means (left) and matou means (right)

Next time, I need to practice my maui and matou because I go the wrong direction.

HPE Balancing

Today we went outside and we were using the equipment. We used a volley ball, tennis racket and ball, hockey stick, egg and spoon, and football.

First we got into partners first we used was the football. We used the sports equipment. We were rotating. There were five stations. We went through the hardest part was the egg on the spoon.

For the football we tried to balance on one leg and needed to put it on our face and try to balance it on are head. The football we also tried to put it on our knee. I tried to go on 1 leg and bonce it on my knee. This was hard for me because we tried to put it on our face and tried to balance on 1 leg. I tried to not make it fall.

And then we tried a tennis racket ball and tennis ball. We needed to stand on one leg with evrey equipment. The tennis racket and ball was easy but tried to throw it to you parnter who has the racket and hit the tennis ball.

Then we tried to go on my next station with hockey equipment. The hockey stick and the hockey ball were hard because you had to stand on one leg while passing across the body.

Then we put the egg and spoon it was hard for me because we tried to put our hand straight. Then got on 1 leg and try go down with the egg and spoon. It was hard because every time I go up the egg always drop the egg on the floor.

Lastly were doing volley ball we had to throw the ball to our partner. I tried to hit it to our partner. It was the hardest because it was heavy. It was hard because it was heavy for me.

I need to work on my balancing we tried balance on one foot. It was hard beacause i keep wobbling.

SSR Selfie

  We did another SSR Selfie and I read a fiction book about Bad Guys.

In the story the bad guys was in a house. The house was bad, destroyed, wrecked. The characters look like a mean person, bad, disgusting and filthy.

I enjoyed the book about Bad Guys because I can learn how not to be a bad guy.

Walking With ANZACS

 We practised our reciprocal reading on a PDF called Where we live.

The five  rolls are leader, predictor, clarifier, questioner and summariser.  

First we read a PDF that  was telling us about Where we live.

then we read that the kids draised  a fund to  help the soldier who went to war.

The most important roll of reciprocal reading was clarifier because it helped us find the most important words from the text and understand them.

I like this activity but asking questions was tricky.

Walking With ANZAC

We practise our reciprocal reading on a PDF called what we ate.

The 6 rolls is leader, predictor, clarifier, questioner, summariser. 

First we read the PDF that soldiers ate during the war. 

Then we read that they ate: bully beef, jam, canned fruit and vegetables, lack of vitamin c, hard biscuits and water.

Last the most helpful role was the clarifier role because they identified tricky and unknown words that we don't understand through out the text.

 

I like this activity but asking questions was tricky.

Simple Machines

 Did you know that the pulley, wheel and axel and screw they all move objects. A screw works by turning around, a wheel and axle is worked by an axle, a pulley is worked by pulling on a rope and a wheel and by working together the heavy object will lift.

Balancing

 Today I learnt balancing but passing with one leg.

 First we had to get into partners first we used was the netball ball we had to use the equipment sideways and we were rotating there were five stations we went through the hardest part was the frisbee.

The frisbee was hard because we had to go on 1 foot and it was hard to catch.

The basket ball was easy because it was a dribbe then and had to go on 1 foot.

The netball was easy because we just had to pass it to each other and go on 1 foot.

The rugby was not that hard becuase sometimes the ball was hard to catch. I had to go on 1 side and pass.

The hockey was little bit easy because the ball was moving to much and hard to hit. I had the hockey stick and had to go on 1 foot.

Maori

I learnt 10 objects around the kitchen and learnt some questions. 

First I learnt how to say Kei hea te pene rākau? Kei hea te pene rākau means where is the pencil.

Then I also learnt how to say Kei raro i te tēpu? Kei raro i te tēpu means the pecil is under the table.

I thought this activity was fun because I thought it could help me with my maori in the kitchen.

Effect is that something happened. Cause is the reason why the effect happened.

I tried to finger out what it was for my example. I did a practise task so I know what I was doing. I did 3

practise tasks.

 The wedge, the lever, the inclined plane are similar simple machines.

Keywords and Reminders

I learnt about reciprocal reading.

There is a leader that had to lead the group and give the cards to know who there are.

A predictor has to tell what is going to happen next.

A clarifier is a person that tells the group what the word is that they don't know.

A questioner is a person who tells the questions that they don't know.

A summariser is a person who summarises the story and what it is all about.

I like this task because it helps me learnt about reciprocal reading.

Harry's War

All texts have a range to share information with the reader.

A keyword unlocks something with lots of information.

Keywords can be used to retell information- Power strugle, central powers, allies these can help me retell world war 1.

Keywords can grow our vocabulary and we can use the words, or reminders in other situations.for example: latrine this means toilet but it doesn't flush

Manners

Manners is used for saying thank you, your welcome, please, sorry. 

Manners is like opening the door, saying thank you if they give something, saying sorry if they do something bad or mean.

Manners should be used all the time. 

Manners tells that they want to be nice, kind, friendly and respctful.

Ploblem Solving

Today we did a task that is with time and solving. 

First we had to solve problems.

Then we had to explain how we did it.

Last I check me and my groups questions and see if it is right.

It was a hard task because the first and second questions were covered so I couldn't see if the answer was right or not.

Simple Machines

A simple machine is a tool that is easy to use and to carry heavy objects. 

These are the six simple machines. We found it around our school.

Maori

 I learnt about Maori preposition.

First was tenei means here. For examaple "He puka puka tenei" means "the book is here".

Then the other one is tena means there. For exmaple "He pene tena" means "the pen is there".

After the other one is tera means over there. For examape "He turu tera" means "the chair is over there".

I like this task because it can help me learn my Maori.

Time Difference

I learnt how to tell the time difference in maths difference means subtract. 

I had to tell the time it was 4:05 then I added 4 hours on the time was 8:05.

Then I added the minuted the time was already 8:05 so I added 35 minutes then the time was 8:35.

The the middle one was hard because of trick questions. I like this task because it will make me help better at time.

Photos About Balancing

 I took photos about balancing around our school.

First I took photos about balancing. We did it around our school. We took photos around two places around the school. I was balancing on the ledge.

Then We went to the park. My partner balancing on a bule skinny line to balance and got help if she would fall. 

After that my partner got on to me and got on my shoulder to balance.

This was a hard task because I am not good at balancing.                                                                                                                                                                

Introduction

I learnt about a introduction.

A explanation tells how thing work.

I watched a video about how popcorn pops. 

I figured out what was a Introduction. A introduction tells what the person that is reading about.

I like an introduction and learnt about it. I also want to learn about a mechanism because I want to learnt about a explanation.

I learnt about Maori country words that can help me in class.

The questions I learnt was kau marama that means do you understand and kau mutu which means two things finish or finished.

I enjoyed doing this DLO about learning moari because I get know countrys that are Maori.

Times

I did the time and had to read it.

I had to tell where was the minute hand and the hour hand. The minute hand is the skinny tall hand. The hour hand is the fat and short.

I got a clock face generator and did a time and had to answer it. I had to write the word for the time. Then had to do the time. 

I like this task because it can help me to tell the time.

Balancing

Today I was learning how to balance.

First I had to balance on the floor and our partner pushed me softly. I had to put my head up and my partner pushed me and I had to balance with my head up. I had to put my head down and my balancing was good.

Next we went into a group and had to balance on the balance beam. We had a plan and balanced on top of the person while the person was down and had to jump on top of them.

After I got three partners and got a soccer ball and one person had to balance on the ball as the other people had to help them and had to see if they were going to fall.

It was fun because we learnt how to balance and help them with there balance on the beam. 

 

SSR Selfie Lost In Outer Space

We did another SSR Selfie and I did a non fiction back about outer space.

I learnt 3 new words that I don't know and three key pieces of information about the main topic. Like plants, galaxy, and Apollo 13.

I enjoyed the book because I learnt lots of new facts about Out Of Space.

Making Connection

We can make connections when we read: text to self, text to text, text to world.

A text to self connection is something about the book and something that is the same about the book and yourself. For example The duck tried to protect herself from the highway rat. My connection is I protect myself from my brother. My connection is protecting yourself.

A text to text connection is a book and another book that have similar ideas. For exmaple The duck told the highway rat I have a sister in a cave. My connection is Moana got tricked by Maui and he trapped her in the cave. My connection is tricking people to go into a cave.

A text to world is the book you read and something around the world. For exmaple the duck gave the food back to the villgers. My connection is the other people give the food to the homeless. My connection is giving food to others.

These 3 connections help people to understand what they are reading.

Duffy Role Model

 Marc is a Duffy role model who tells people about his childhood and how he got better at reading. Marc also went through good times and bad times in his childhood. He talked about why reading is important.

 Marc went to prison because he went with bad people amd stole cars.. Marc went to prison for 4 years and while he was there learnt how to read with  a teacher.

Marc got a School Certificate and Diploma in Business while he was in  prison. Marc was a New Zealand fight for life boxing lightweight champ. 

Marc learnt the trade of a builder and owned his own  business. Marc worked for Bunnings fitting out their stores, now he is manager the largest store in New Zealand, which is in Hamilton.  Later Marc went back to university to become a counsellor.

Marc is a Duffy role model now and has achieved a lot. So now he is a Duffy role model who goes to other schools.

Multiplication Quiz

 Multiplication is a fast way of adding numbers many times. The three, four, and six times tables are examples of multiplication.

The three times tables are a multplying three by a number of groups. The four time tables are a multplying four by a number of groups. The six time tables are a multplying six by a number of groups.

The times tables are an easy way to remember basic multiplication equations. The next time tables to learn are the seven, eight, and nine times tables.    

Teamwork

 Teamwork is a term to describe a group of people working together to achieve a goal. 

Teamwork consists of three main mechanisms. Communicaton is talking to or planning somthing out. When people in a dodgeball team communicate they tell each other when a ball is coming their way.

Cooperation is being a good team member while working together. People in a dodgeball team cooperate by listening and following a plan to be successful.

Collaboration is working together to be successful or finish somethi ng. An example of collabration is when players in a dodgeball team collabrate and work together in a game to win.

Private vs Public Information

Private vs public information is something that you are happy to post or something that you want to keep as a secret.

Public information is something that can show other people. Public information is also like a video that you want to show to the world.

Private information is a secret people don't want to show to others or give it to others that you trust.

If information isn't kept safe, it could be shared, brodcast, copied, or stolen.

   

Character Trait The Duck

A character trait is something that helps make a summarise of your story and adding adjective in your story.

A adjective is a describing word that shows what the character's feeling are.

The duck tried to procted herself because she didn't want to get eaten by the highway rat.

The adjective hero was chose because it is a good word to match the feeling and what she did. The adjective courageous was chose because it is nice and fits togther with the feelings.

Character trait is important because it can summarise the story for an indepth understanding.

Fact Or Opinion

I did a fact or opinion and doing the duck from the highway rat.

First our teacher read the highway rat.

Then I wrote my fact first and my opinion secound. I wrote about the duck in the story. 

I wrote four more and worte what happens next. I about how she is brave helpful scraed and respectful. I chose this because it's a good person in the story and lots of facts I will know.

I wrote five adjectives in each opinion box. I was doing adjectives that she is doing.

I need to work on my opinion because I always write a fact about the duck.
