QAR and Synthesis

My group and I were making a synthesis and a QAR.

First we did did synthesis. Synthesis has a prior knowledge, new information, and new understanding. 

Prior knowledge is that they already know about the title. New information is that you don't know what is in the text. New understandings is if you agree or don't agree.

Last we did a QAR. QAR has four boxes right here, think and search, author and you, and on my own. There are ten questions that you have to answer.

Table Mat

 Today I was learning facts about recycling.

First I had to find 3 keywords in the book and a video. My keywords was recycling, shredded, pieces, paper, rubbish, rubbish trucks.

Then I had to find the define for the keywords. My defines was recycling and paper.

After I had to get photos about our define.

Last I had to write 4 facts about recycling.

This is a good task about reading because learning new recycling things and time line.

SSR Selfie

  We did another SSR Selfie and I read a fiction book about Bad Guys.

In the story the bad guys was in a house. The house was bad, destroyed, wrecked. The characters look like a mean person, bad, disgusting and filthy.

I enjoyed the book about Bad Guys because I can learn how not to be a bad guy.

Walking With ANZACS

 We practised our reciprocal reading on a PDF called Where we live.

The five  rolls are leader, predictor, clarifier, questioner and summariser.  

First we read a PDF that  was telling us about Where we live.

then we read that the kids draised  a fund to  help the soldier who went to war.

The most important roll of reciprocal reading was clarifier because it helped us find the most important words from the text and understand them.

I like this activity but asking questions was tricky.

Walking With ANZAC

We practise our reciprocal reading on a PDF called what we ate.

The 6 rolls is leader, predictor, clarifier, questioner, summariser. 

First we read the PDF that soldiers ate during the war. 

Then we read that they ate: bully beef, jam, canned fruit and vegetables, lack of vitamin c, hard biscuits and water.

Last the most helpful role was the clarifier role because they identified tricky and unknown words that we don't understand through out the text.
 

I like this activity but asking questions was tricky.

Keywords and Reminders

I learnt about reciprocal reading.

There is a leader that had to lead the group and give the cards to know who there are.

A predictor has to tell what is going to happen next.

A clarifier is a person that tells the group what the word is that they don't know.

A questioner is a person who tells the questions that they don't know.

A summariser is a person who summarises the story and what it is all about.

I like this task because it helps me learnt about reciprocal reading.

Harry's War

All texts have a range to share information with the reader.

A keyword unlocks something with lots of information.

Keywords can be used to retell information- Power strugle, central powers, allies these can help me retell world war 1.

Keywords can grow our vocabulary and we can use the words, or reminders in other situations.for example: latrine this means toilet but it doesn't flush

SSR Selfie Lost In Outer Space

We did another SSR Selfie and I did a non fiction back about outer space.

I learnt 3 new words that I don't know and three key pieces of information about the main topic. Like plants, galaxy, and Apollo 13.

I enjoyed the book because I learnt lots of new facts about Out Of Space.

Making Connection

We can make connections when we read: text to self, text to text, text to world.

A text to self connection is something about the book and something that is the same about the book and yourself. For example The duck tried to protect herself from the highway rat. My connection is I protect myself from my brother. My connection is protecting yourself.

A text to text connection is a book and another book that have similar ideas. For exmaple The duck told the highway rat I have a sister in a cave. My connection is Moana got tricked by Maui and he trapped her in the cave. My connection is tricking people to go into a cave.

A text to world is the book you read and something around the world. For exmaple the duck gave the food back to the villgers. My connection is the other people give the food to the homeless. My connection is giving food to others.

These 3 connections help people to understand what they are reading.

Duffy Role Model

 Marc is a Duffy role model who tells people about his childhood and how he got better at reading. Marc also went through good times and bad times in his childhood. He talked about why reading is important.

 Marc went to prison because he went with bad people amd stole cars.. Marc went to prison for 4 years and while he was there learnt how to read with  a teacher.

Marc got a School Certificate and Diploma in Business while he was in  prison. Marc was a New Zealand fight for life boxing lightweight champ. 

Marc learnt the trade of a builder and owned his own  business. Marc worked for Bunnings fitting out their stores, now he is manager the largest store in New Zealand, which is in Hamilton.  Later Marc went back to university to become a counsellor.

Marc is a Duffy role model now and has achieved a lot. So now he is a Duffy role model who goes to other schools.

Character Trait The Duck

A character trait is something that helps make a summarise of your story and adding adjective in your story.

A adjective is a describing word that shows what the character's feeling are.

The duck tried to procted herself because she didn't want to get eaten by the highway rat.

The adjective hero was chose because it is a good word to match the feeling and what she did. The adjective courageous was chose because it is nice and fits togther with the feelings.

Character trait is important because it can summarise the story for an indepth understanding.

Fact Or Opinion

I did a fact or opinion and doing the duck from the highway rat.

First our teacher read the highway rat.

Then I wrote my fact first and my opinion secound. I wrote about the duck in the story. 

I wrote four more and worte what happens next. I about how she is brave helpful scraed and respectful. I chose this because it's a good person in the story and lots of facts I will know.

I wrote five adjectives in each opinion box. I was doing adjectives that she is doing.

I need to work on my opinion because I always write a fact about the duck.

Visualisation The Highway Rat

We were doing a visualisation about the highway rat.

The highway rat is a rat. Next he was stealing people's food. He was stealing sheep's cothes when he wanted a cake. Then he stall a more food. He stall ant's food, cat's food, he also stall his horse food. 

After the highway rat he saw a duck and didn't have food. Then he said "you have no food so I am going to eat you." It was fun doing this some of us were closeing our eyes. 

Visualisation is something that is a picture that helps you that show you drawing without words

Visualisation helps you because if people are deaf you can draw pictures so they understand.

Visualisation is something that sometimes helps you with work and shows whats differnt and what is the same.

SSR Selfie Sky High

 I read Sky High and finish the book the author is David Hill.


On Google Slides I had to answer questions to complete this task.  

Jean was born in 1903. 

Jean started flying at 19. 

Jean holds the record 14 days, 22 hours, 30 minutes for the longest flight. 


I enjoyed the book because I learnt lots of new facts about Jean Batten.
